On the way

“It’s incredible how people find the strength needed to flee from war and violence, to get on a rickety boat or walk endlessly with their small children and then attempt to make a new life in another country,” Lorenzo Mattotti, the artist behind this week’s cover, “On the Way,” says. “It’s the epic story of our times,” he continues. “Nowadays, the Mediterranean Sea is too often a cemetery. To risk one’s life on a boat—that’s mad, but there’re also fantastic stories of people helping others. It’s always emotionally wrenching—I can’t believe what people are capable of, good or bad. In Europe, there’s no consensus on the response to refugees; it’s an enormous problem, and it affects all of us. It’s the story of our times.”

  1. È incredibile che si scelga la morte incerta per fuggire all orrore di un futuro assurdo. Ma è davvero la storia contemporanea.
